Community Health Outreach Intern
The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington’s Fit & Well Seniors Community Outreach program offers the District of Columbia senior citizens a wellness, education and socialization program. This fun and interactive program provides land- and water-based fitness classes, from the traditional to the revolutionary, in all 8 Wards of DC. It also has health and lifestyle assessments, inter-generational activities, and social clubs. Intern duties include planning, implementing, managing, evaluating Senior Citizen programs and related community outreach at over 40 locations as well as supporting daily operation of Senior Citizen Wellness Center—a collaboration with District Department of Aging and Howard University. Course Description:

This course examines the relationship between the conception and articulation of culture in this particular moment of global history and the quest for normative values. It is premised on the belief that many people throughout the world have been forced by current history to rethink the cultural meaning of difference (social, sexual, religious, moral, ethnic, political, gender, etc.), that is, to reflect more deeply on how the category of difference is constructed, empowered, evaluated, appropriated, and deployed in specific contexts.
