Portfolio Instructions

Portfolio Instructions
The Portfolio displays the work you have done throughout the semester. Compiling your work in this way encourages you to reflect on what you have learned in this course, enables you (and others) to see how your writing has improved, and helps you to recognize how the knowledge you have gained about writing will benefit you in the future.

Your final Portfolio must include, in this order:

• Table of Contents (5 points)
• Portfolio Introduction and Analysis (20 points)
• Revision of a previously submitted assignment (20 points)
• Revision Cover Memo (5 points)
• All of the three papers you turned in during the semester (5 points)

Carefully proofread and revise everything before submitting.

IMPORTANT: All Portfolio documents must be clean copies without any comments or grades on them.
You will submit your Portfolio using Pathbrite–the new Portfolio platform we are using at the University of Utah.

Table of Contents
As you are gathering and writing the pieces for the portfolio, you need to create a Table of Contents, which is a list of all of the items included in the portfolio.

Your Table of Contents will be the first page of your portfolio and should include an original Portfolio Title at the top of the page.
The Table of Contents will reflect the overall organization of your portfolio and will help the reader navigate the document. It will also help you think about your organization of your work.

1. Portfolio Analysis and Self-Reflection
2. Revision of a previously submitted assignment
3. Revision Cover Memo
4. …

This is your last chance to revise your Lit. Review, and it should convey your grasp of academic writing at the university level. Use this opportunity to make final changes so that it represents your best work, and take the time to proofread carefully so that your spelling, grammar, and formatting meet academic standards.

Because the Portfolio will be one long document, you should include titles that are specific to your papers, page numbers, and as much other detail as you see fit (sub-section titles, etc.). Consider the audience for the portfolio. What will their reasons be for reading it, and what kinds of information will that audience find useful in the Table of Contents?
Introduction and analysis

In this introduction, you need to tell your readers about what they are going to see. Briefly explain each section and highlight the problems you faced while writing it. Furthermore, in this introduction you might tell your readers how the experience of writing a portfolio has improved your analytical writing skills. The portfolio project is designed to give you a new perspective on the work you have done this semester. It is important to think about where you started and to articulate the specific ways your writing has developed.

In preparation for drafting your introduction and analysis, you will review all of your written work from the semester so that you may discuss:
• what you have learned about your writing,
• how your writing has improved,
• how you will apply what you have learned in future classes, and
• what you will continue to work on to improve your writing.

You will write a brief essay in which you explain these points using specific examples from your previously graded papers. (Your own writing becomes source material for your essay.) Your analysis must accomplish three things:

1. Describe three or four concrete ways in which your writing has improved. Find an example of your writing from early in the semester that you can compare to your later work. Explain what about the more recent example is an improvement over the first. Discuss the process you went through to develop your writing in these particular ways.
2. Explain how you will apply what you have learned in future classes. Yes, this exercise is a bit hypothetical, but this college course is designed to benefit you in all of your coursework, so it is important for you to consider how your new skills might apply in future educational scenarios.
3. Finally, identify and discuss the writing skills and concepts you would like to develop further as you progress at the university.

Some of the writing concepts to consider as you read through your portfolio are:
• summary
• synthesis (combining other people’s words and ideas)
• overall paper structure
• paragraph development
• sentence structure
• thesis writing and placement
• research and citation
• “representing the conversation”

Of course, you are not limited to this list, and you should discuss anything that you feel is relevant to your writing.
As was true with the literacy narrative, the introduction and analysis need to be detailed and specific, and they should connect all of the details in a common discussion.

Develop a Proposal for a Stress Reduction Program focused on Communication

Warm-up Activity 3.1
Your text presents assertiveness in communication as a solution to reducing stress by effectively communicating one’s needs and one’s position to others. Successful communication, however, is communication that invokes shared meanings to communicate a message. Communicating assertively is only one way of communicating. Is it realistic to expect that we can communicate with all coworkers and friends using the same communication style, regardless of their gender, age, work role, or ethnic background? Working in a culturally diverse environment and as global citizens whose work may involve contact with people from different countries and cultures may necessitate considering various communication style. Browse this week’s resources to become familiar with the communication styles of various ethnic groups in the US and around the world, and to learn more about what are “typically” American communication styles.

Assignment

Is communication a one–size-fits-all proposition? Is there a “best” way to communicate? Is assertiveness necessarily the best way to communicate effectively with others to prevent stress? In this assignment you will consider these issues in the context of a fictional scenario.

Imagine that you have been called in as a health consultant to a small company. The company on site doctor reports that many employees come to him with stress related problems such as insomnia, tension headaches, stomach upsets, and mild depression. You schedule a meeting with representatives of each department and feel a definite tension in the air. Some people are sullen, and sulk through the meeting without saying a word. Others communicate aggressively, blaming other departments for company problems and increasing stress. A few people try to communicate their ideas calmly, but seem misunderstood by others.

You decide the first place to start in a stress reduction problem focused on communication. For this assignment, prepare a proposal for a communication training course that you would offer at this company. Your proposal should include:
1.A description of the type of communication training you will offer in your course (assertiveness only or multicultural), and a justification of that choice.
2.A two-page handout that you plan to give to the participants explaining principles of clear and effective communication
3.A description of the training itself, including any exercises or scenarios you would ask the participants to carry out.
4.A list of at least four additional print or online resources that the participants can access after the course for more information.

In addition to the resources you gather for the proposal, support your proposal with at least three scholarly resources. Other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.

Length: 6-8 pages including the 2-page handout. (Not including title and reference pages.)

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.

SQL Statements

Assignment Details
I will upload assignment from week1,2,3. Some helpful links and PowerPoint presentation provided by the professor.
Key Assignment Draft
You have been asked to develop a database system plan for a local company (or a company of your choosing) that wants to track its customers/clients, appointments, billing, and employees. Structured query language (SQL) is used to create the database schema, maintain the database records, and perform administrative tasks. In addition to the Database System Plan template that includes section headings (project outline), submit a SQL Statements document of 4–5 pages based on the entity relationship (ER) model completed in Week 3. Complete the following:
• Include SQL statements that use data definition language (DDL) commands to create the database schema specified in the ER diagram created in Week 3.
o Include indexes, constraints, and relationships.
• Include SQL statements that use data manipulation language (DML) to do the following:
o INSERT 15 records into each table.
o UPDATE 5 sets of records in each table using one specific criteria per update statement (e.g., EXACT MATCH, LIKE, BETWEEN, IN, or HAVING).
o DELETE 2 records from 1 table based on specific criteria (e.g., EXACT MATCH or LIKE).
• Create stored procedures to support retrieval of the data from the database, using SELECT statements to accomplish the following:
o Aggregate (group) functions (count, avg, min, max, sum)
♣ Write 4 queries using group functions.
o Group By
♣ Write 2 queries using the Group By, Having, and Order By syntax.
o Simple queries
♣ Write 4 queries that manipulate data in 1 table.
o Join queries
♣ Write 4 queries that join 2 or more tables.

• Name the document as follows:
o yourname_IT600__IP4.doc
• All sources should be cited both in-text and in the References section by using APA format.
• Submit the document for grading.

Design history homework

Be sure to use the attachment reading to answer these questionsHere is the link to another source: Be sure use the Chapter 12 There are many inter-connections between the design forms, materials, concepts, etc. we covered in class, and many ways you could restate, in your own words, how they all weave together. Use the questions below to suggest the full range of these connections – but don’t let the particular order of “shape” of these questions get in the way of organizing the material in the way that you can do it best. For example, if you wanted to answer both of the questions below in one essay, organized differently perhaps, you could certainly do so. However it seems to make the most sense to you to organize all of what you learned. And do check out the reading, it will help. 1. Compare the cities of Teotihuacan and Tikal in terms of a) the in which each is situated, and its impact on morphology, composition/layout, and materiality of architectural forms and the city over all; b) the ways in which these two societies’ about life and the universe are represented or involved in design forms or their organization in each case (remember the link to symbolism and/or conceptual representation in each); c) any general in architectural form or detail and what might explain (or correlate with) these differences; d) the for which the most prominent and important structures, the temple-pyramids, were made;  2. What is the we identified (and which you were shown samples of in class) for each culture; whatwas it used for; and give an example of its practical (economic, technological, etc.) value to the society? Whatdoes the way they used (and shaped) these materials – in each case – say about the two societies and theirbeliefs, way of life or signature design forms/stylistic identity? Can you relate the products they made with thesematerials to key forms seen in art, architecture, architectural detail or ornament, or writing forms? Can you relatethem to the two symbolic forms we covered in the last class (butterfly and scroll)?

Annotated Bibliography: Topic (Chosen from the list provided) [Name] South University Online [Template instructions: Replace the information in red with your work-then delete this line] 2 Annotated Bibliography: Topic (Chosen from the list provided) [APA formatted reference for source (list in alphabetical order) using a hanging indent] [Underneath the reference, give a summary of the article then an analysis: Summary of article: 1-2 paragraphs that describe the following information in your own words in paragraph format (not bullet points). • Why the article was written? • What are the major points of the article? • If the article was a study, describe: o The methods used in the research: Include the participants, how the research question(s) was tested or measured (e.g. survey, interview, formal testing…) o The results of the study: What did the researchers find out? o The conclusions: What did the researchers conclude from the study? What were the limitations of the research? NOTE: The article doesn’t need to be cited in the body of the annotated bibliography because it is referenced in the beginning of the review. For any other sources used (e.g. the text) you would cite as you normally do and list them in the reference section. [Analysis of the article: 1-2 paragraphs describing the following: Whether or not the points made by the author are logical and supported by evidence and whether the author demonstrates any bias in presenting the arguments. Were other arguments or possibilities considered? Are the author’s conclusions supported? Do they fit with your understanding of the topic and your textbook’s description (cite the textbook and any other sources you use for analyzing your article – include any additional sources you cite as part of your analysis in your reference list)? Why or why not (provide support for your opinion)?] 3 Example of formatting: Boonstra, A., & Broekhuis, M. (2010). Proposal 2

(Consulting Proposal 2). Each proposal must be 1000–1500 words and include at least the following 5 sections:1. Definition of project 2. Diagnosis of current situation 3. Recommendations 4. Implementation plan 5. SummaryA sample/template for the proposals is provided in the Assignment Instructions folder. Each proposal must include a title and reference page formatted according to current APA requirements. You must use a minimum of 4 scholarly peer-reviewed sources plus the text. Write the proposal as if you are addressing the CEO or organizational leadership as identified in the selected case study. The overall narrative in the proposal must include significant emphasis on diagnosing the problems in the business with recommendations for relevant change. These recommendations must be supported with specific examples or sources.  For example:• If the organization needs to change its recruitment strategy or perhaps offer new products, what specific types of change are involved?• Will the employees be affected? If so, what type of employees?• How should the recommended changes be implemented?• Are there drivers of the change that will determine the success of the change initiative? If so, what are they?Keep in mind that the proposal is an overview of the current situation, needed changes, and recommendations; therefore, it is important to refrain from providing too much detail. However, the proposal must contain enough information for the CEO to select a course of action. Because the person receiving your proposal is the CEO, there is no need to re-state information in the case study as he/she should already be aware of the current situation. You are encouraged to integrate information from any of the Reading & Study materials or your own experience. These prompts are provided to support your analysis and critical thinking as you read the cases and to give you some structure if you select one of these for your proposalTOPICS TO CHOICE FROMWellcome IsraelDonna Dubinsky  and Apple Computer IncEmilio Kornau
