Discussion 1

For a moment assume that Descartes’ argument works in proving God’s existence, does the ultimate conclusion follow as stated in premise 6? Can Descartes be certain that God would not allow an evil demon or computer to systematically deceive humanity? Maybe God has a reason, or needs to teach humanity a lesson.

Staffing Organization

Attraction-Selection-Attrition (ASA) Framework

Like human beings, organizations have a unique personality. The Attraction-Selection-Attrition framework explains that potential employees will be attracted to organizations whose cultures match their own personality. Ultimately, there needs to be a reciprocal match between the employee and the organization. As a practical example, Southwest Airlines became the airline industry’s most successful firm by hiring people with positive attitudes and well-honed interpersonal skills, including a sense of humor. At Timberland, senior applicants go through a day of community service with executives. People who do not fit with the organization will be unhappy which will lead to attrition. As a result, it is better to “filter out” the misfits before they are hired.

Drawing on the material readings and doing additional research, please prepare a 3-4 page paper (not including the cover and reference pages) in which you:

Research the culture of an organization that you are familiar with. Next, what kind of employee would prefer to work at that organization and why?
How does the organization attract new employees?
As an HR Staffing Specialist, how would you apply the ASA Framework to your organization?

Coaching Plan

A Coaching Plan is a document that outlines the performance context, overall aim, skill assessment and progressive means by which to advance towards the achievement of the overall aim. It tends to comprise an audit of the existing skill set, an outline of the desired skill profile, and use a specified model (such as CLEAR, GROW or ACHIEVE) to provide focus and address the performance gap in a coherent and progressive manner.
Given the focus of the plan is performance enhancement (as opposed to a remedial focus), a ‘towards strategy’ facilitates the process. The Coaching Plan may incorporate a range of performance diagnostics designed to gain accurate insight into the performer’s actual performance and inform a clear pathway to the ideal performance state.
Within the Coaching Performance Plan include:-
a) A model of coaching covered on the module.
b) An introduction to the client: – information relevant to the client’s context and performance aspirations.
c) An audit of the current skill level. Show evidence of your having conducted a performance appraisal.
d) Your tracking progress and responding to feedback with appropriate activities or adaptations.
e) An evaluative commentary of the effectiveness of processes undertaken (with minimal description of approaches used). Offer a critical analysis of the effectiveness of approaches implemented. Outline ‘lessons learned’ and activities for improvement.
I suggest in this assignment you treat the Coaching Plan as an outline for improvement for someone who is already successful in the job.

This is distinct from a Performance Improvement Plan, that is designed for someone who is not performing up to expectations in their current role.

What was the hypothesis of the experiment? (What were the researchers expecting to find?)
What species were involved?
What are the independent (manipulated) and dependent (measured) variables of the experiment?
What parts of the brain were being studied?
What (if any) behavioral outcomes were being observed? (This may or may not be the same as the DV)
If the study was not done in an “experimental” format, what correlations were drawn from the data?
Was the hypothesis confirmed or disconfirmed?
What do the researchers state as directions for future study based on their results?
3. What ethical considerations may have taken place in the development of this experiment? Did the
researchers have to get any approval to use human or animal subjects? If animal subjects were used, did the
researchers attempt to relate the results of the experiment back to a human condition?
4. What concepts, items or aspects of the content of this article were familiar to you, either from this class or
another class you have taken? Which items were the least familiar? Did you have to do extra digging or
searching to figure out what was going on in the study?
5. What did you take away from reading this article? Are you more or less interested in this topic than you
were when you first began? What was the most interesting, notable, or surprising thing that you discovered
as a result of this assignment?
6. When you have completed the assignment, please read it over. It can’t hurt to have a friend proofread it.
The content should make sense for a college-level reader. If necessary, you can seek proofreading help from
the Success Center tutors (Spelling and Grammar: 5 points). When you are ready, upload the following TWO
documents to the appropriate link in Moodle. The first of these is the completed assignment. The second is
the PDF of the article you reviewed. You will upload them both at the same time before selecting “Submit”.
Failure to submit the PDF of the article will result in a 5 point deduction.
