Place History

Please follow the link to watch the Ted talk with Bill Davenhall about our place histories. What is a place history? Once you watch his talk, you will have a better idea of what that means! For this third post, you are discussing the interesting idea of place history.

In your discussion, these are some things to consider (although they are neither exhaustive nor exclusive):

Explore your place history. Where have you spent most of your time in life? Where do you plan on spending the next part of your life? For the early part of your life, did you have a choice?
How important are environmental influences on your choices?
What types of industries are/were there, or the types of natural spaces, or the overall human structure of the space?
What is the overall landscape: urban, suburban, rural? Does that matter? Why?
What healthrends are you aware of in the places that you have spent your time?
Do you want your place movements known? Why or why not? (Remember, Davenhill\’s friend was tracked and then recorded. That is already happening with each of us who owns a smart phone- are you comfortable with that type of information being known about you? Why or why not?)
Respond to the quote by Jack Lord MD: \”Geography is destiny in medicine.\”
Discuss your opinions about whether you agree or disagree with Mr. Davenhill\’s suggestion that medical histories should include a patients\’ place history; does it matter for your health? Why or why not?
Your response should be a well crafted, thoughtful exploration of place history that includes the ramifications and implications for your health. I am looking for an organized response with correct grammar, complete and varied sentence structure (compound and complex sentences as well as simple sentences), sophisticated vocabulary and clear articulation of your ideas. Give support through journals, articles (peer reviewed), books, etc. You MUST have support that is cited APA. Be a critical thinker! (500 words)

race

Section I. Go to http://www.pbs.org/race/000_General/000_00-Home.htm. Take a few minutes to explore the site. Rather than writing an essay, please address each question separately and include the number in your response. Make sure to answer all five questions.
1. Click on “Learn More,” then click on the numbers on the left to learn quick facts about race. Choose two of the facts that caught your attention and explain what they are and why the caught your attention.
2. Click on “Sorting People” on the right menu and then click on “Begin Sorting.” How good were you at assigning the correct race to the people? Were you surprised? Why do you think that was?
3. Click on “Race Timeline” on the right menu and then click on “Explore Timeline.” You can select a time period or a theme to explore. Choose two time periods and two themes. Describe your selections. After reading all the information, what have you learned about race?
Section II. Do a Google search for “race” and explore some of the sites that you find.
4. Choose a site that you thought was interesting. Please do not use Wikipedia or similar
sites. Identify and describe the site. What have you learned about race from this site?
Section III. Select one of the three main sociological theories we have discussed in class (functionalist, conflict, or interactionist—review chapter 1 if needed).
5. How does what you have learned about race relate to the theory you selected?
Follow MLA guidelines for quotes and citations as needed. Make sure that words or ideas other than your own are documented and credited to the original author. Your work should be free of spelling and grammatical errors. Papers should be double-spaced and have 1-inch margins and 12-point font.

Researching Your Disciplines Assignment

interdisciplinary studies
my two concentration are engineering management and business
www.asu.edu you can find more information about both concentrations
I also upload one of the assignment that we have done which is plan rubric that explain the subject of each course just incase if you need it

Here is the assignment description and grading rubric for the \”Researching Your Disciplines\” assignment. Click on the link above to submit your assignment when you are ready to submit. Please submit as a single attachment, containing all 3 parts. Please submit as an Attachment, only, in doc or docx–do not paste in the box or as a Text Submission.

NOTE: This is a three-part assignment, but should be posted as a SINGLE ATTACHMENT

Read over the Concentration Areas Worksheet, then research each of your two concentrations and complete one Worksheet for each concentration (so you will complete two Worksheets). Please use the Worksheet for your Outlines. For those of you in Organizational Studies, you will complete one outline on Organizational Studies and one outline on another discipline in which you have background.
After addressing worksheet questions for both concentrations you will need to write a 3 page Common Ground Essay (double-spaced) explaining how your disciplines can be integrated into your career goals (for those of you in Organizational Studies, here you can focus on how Organizational Studies relates to your career goals). In this essay I would like you to explain how some specific perspectives, concepts, theories, skills and/or methods from both disciplines interrelate to your career goals. If you are unsure about a possible career, then discuss 2 or 3 options–please be specific, not general, in your discussion. I am looking for a well-integrated, unified essay: do not simply copy what you wrote on the worksheets.
So for this assignment you will be submitting 2 worksheets and one 3 page essay, all in 12 point font. (You must submit all 3 as part of 1 file, for ease of grading: do NOT submit three files.) All quotes must be in quotation marks, and sources of quotes, paraphrases and summaries must be cited in-text, with an accompanying bibliography or reference list in APA or MLA style. A title page or reference list do not count as part of the 3 page minimum for the essay. The essay should be double-spaced, in 12 pt. font, with one inch margins. Please revise, edit and proof all writing for organization, mechanics, spelling, word use and fluency.

*Note: You will need to do research to complete the two Concentration Worksheets and the essay. Introductory textbooks, BIS 300/394 or other class notes, University websites, credible internet sources and faculty are good sources for information. However, be careful to write in your own words. Also, note that this assignment takes considerable time, so don’t wait until the last minute to complete.

Library Resource for your Researching your Disciplines paper

You have a special librarian assigned to BIS students and a LibGuide for BIS, including specific help for this assignment (which is called Disciplinary Maps on the website). Check them out at Library Guide to BIS 301. You will want to become familiar with the journals available to you online as listed on that page. This is a resource to help you complete this assignment, but it is not the assignment rubric/ description. See above for assignment description.
