ethics and law

Select of the scenarios below and explain the best solution. Include comments related to any ethical issues that arise. You should try to locate at least one scholarly source or one case that has been decided or is currently pending to support your answer. Scenario 1—ContractsDr. Carver, a cardiologist, entered into an employment agreement with the Heart Institute. According to the contract, after termination of his employment, for two years, he could not compete with the Heart Institute within a 100-mile radius of it. One year after resigning from the Heart Institute, Dr. Carver opened his own practice within 75 miles of the company and began seeing patients. The Heart Institute filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against him.Scenario 2—Intellectual PropertyProfessor Smart teaches criminal law for Cal Western School of Law, a for-profit law school. Several times during the semester, the professor made copies of various articles and distributed them to his students. Unbeknownst to Smart, the son of one of the article’s authors is a student in his class. The son tells his father about Smart’s copying, which has taken place without the father’s or publisher’s permission. The father sues Smart for copyright infringement. Smart claims protection under the fair use doctrine.Scenario 3—AntitrustIn October 2015, Walgreens, the largest drugstore chain in the U.S., announced plans to purchase Rite Aid, another leading drugstore chain. The purchase will face close scrutiny by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for potential violation of antitrust laws.Scenario 4—Consumer ProtectionOn July 15, a salesperson for Liberty Life Insurance met with the Plunks at their home. The Plunks lived in a 55+ retirement community that prohibited door-to-door sales. After facing a persuasive sales pitch about the importance of providing for the surviving spouse and their kids and grandkids, the Plunks signed a contract to purchase a life insurance policy for a total of $1,000 per year. A down payment of $100 was required, with the remainder of the cost to be paid in monthly payments. Two days later, the Plunks had second thoughts about purchasing the insurance. Mr. Plunk contacted the insurance company and stated that they had decided to cancel the contract. The insurance company said it would be impossible to cancel the first year and the Plunks would be in breach of contract if they did not make all of the payments.

Physics Lab Report

Each student should write his/her own laboratory report.   (contained within each week): . Students will receive an e-mail from the KET Virtual Physics Labs with an invitation to enroll into the class.• Expression of the experimental results is an integral part of science. The lab report should have the following format:  (10 points) – course name (PHY 132), title of the experiment, your name (prominent), section number, TA’s name, date of experiment, an abstract. An abstract (two paragraphs long) is the place where you briefly summarize the experiment and cite your main experimental results along with any associated errors and units. Write the abstract after all the other sections are completed. The main body of the report will contain the following sections, each of which must be clearly labeled: (5 points) – in one or two sentences describe the purpose of the lab. What physical quantities are you measuring? What physical principles/laws are you investigating? (5 points) – this section should contain a brief description of the main steps and the significant details of the experiment. (15 points) – your data should be tabulated neatly in this section. Your tables should have clear headings and contain units. All the clearly labeled plots (Figure 1, etc.) produced during lab must be attached to the report. The scales on the figures should be chosen appropriately so that the data to be presented will cover most part of the graph paper.  (20 points) – you are required to show sample calculation of the quantities you are looking for including formulas and all derived equations used in your calculations. Provide all intermediate quantities. Show the calculation of the uncertainties using the rules of the error propagation. You may choose to type these calculations, but neatly hand write will be acceptable. Please label this page Sample Calculations and box your results. Your data sheets that contain measurements generated during the lab are not the results of the lab. (25 points) – here you analyze the data, briefly summarize the basic idea of the experiment, and describe the measurements you made. State the key results with uncertainties and units. Interpret your graphs and discuss what trends were observed, what was the relationship of the variables in your experiment. An important part of any experimental result is a quantification of error in the result.  Describe what you learned from your results.  (5 points) – Did you meet the stated objective of the lab? You will need to supply reasoning in your answers to these questions.Overall, the lab report should to be about 5 pages long. Each student should write his/her own laboratory report. All data sheets and computer printouts generated during the lab have to be labeled Fig.1, Fig. 2, and included at the end of the lab report.

AAS Race, Racism And Critical Thinking

1) COMPOSITION: grammar, syntax, spelling, organization 2) CONTENT: information & data 3) CREATIVITY: originality of approach and ideas 4) CRITICAL ANALYSIS: sociological imagination 5) CITATION: sources; references of each textbook, each film clip, online MOODLE posts, class lectures/discussion, bibliography/works cited -page. In order to provide a critical analysis, in addition to sourcing your required readings, film clips, lectures, & class discussion posts, your paper should enliven your “sociological imagination” and incorporate the concepts of “context” “meaning” & “social reality” (see the last two pages of the syllabus). Define, explain, compare, contrast and develop the two major paradigms of racism: “racism as a set of attitudes” and “racism of system of power.” Incorporate into your discussion, the concepts of “prejudice,” “stereotype,” “discrimination,” and “ethnocentrism.” What roles do “ideology,” “social structure,” “racial inequality,” and “hegemony” play in illuminating these two paradigms of “racism?” Are “race” and “racism” one in the same? Which paradigm does your understanding of the world fit within? Which paradigm best describes how you understand and apply “racism?” What are the central frames of “colorblind racism,” according to Bonilla-Silva and how do they tie into these paradigms? Which paradigm (“set of attitudes” or “system of power,”) does “colorblind racism” locate itself within? Are you a “colorblind racist?” Do you know “colorblind racists?” Are you a “color-conscious racist?” Do you know of “color-conscious racists?” What’s the difference? And finally, after analyzing and critically interrogating the various paradigms of “racism,” would you agree that the United States is a “racist” country? If you agree, explain what you mean, using these paradigms to support your position. If you do not agree, explain what you mean by using these paradigms to support your position. Furthermore, choose a “current event” that has occurred between the dates of February 1st, 2016 to April 10th, 2016 that supports your position that either “The United States is a ‘racist’ country.” or “The United States is a not a ‘racist’ country.” If you have a different position, please support your analysis. You must explain what is “racism” before you can take this position.  Please use all of your class sources and current event article to support your arguments. Please avoid your uninformed and unexamined opinions.  You must provide theoretical frameworks & empirical evidence.

disscussion reply to the question asked from students minimum words count 50 each

1:Good work! A nice simple example that shows how easy it is to use the product rule for exponents. Can you see how working with extremely large or small numbers and using scientific notation would help us to easily apply the product rule? 2:When I said very large numbers I was referring to very large small numbers. Numbers that are way to small for us to count without a computer. I think we don’t use them with things like national debts because there is not a lot of people who are familiar with scientific notation and I think that I’d the reason it is mostly used in science. 3:Shorthand for math is a great way to think of scientific notation. It certainly makes it easier and faster to write and record very large numbers. It is also very helpful when working with sets of very large numbers. Any thoughts from the class on if this makes sense or not? it 242 4:you’re correct there are many devices that we connect to our wireless network, WLANs are meant to make our lives a lot easier. since a wlan can connect our lives to the web it is important to maintain it secure. our bank transactions, homework assignments, work task, and other online activities all can be performed using our wireless devices, if a hackers manages decrypt our data, they will have full access to our personal and professional life. just as wlan can make our lives easier they can make them difficult if the signals are not encrypted and protected. 5:Right. Wireless does not necessarily mean being as advanced as hosting a WiFi network. It simply means being able to do something without the assistance of being wired. As you mentioned, some of the first methods of wireless technology involved the use of remote controls, which work using infrared light. How extreme is it to make technology work without the use of wires? How close are we to having this accomplished? 6:Wireless technology is a necessity in today’s mobile world. Work that was considered impossible in the past is now doable because of technological advancements. We are no longer grounded to a mainframe, such as with dummy terminals. The hardware and software of today make us effective and efficient regardless of where we are located. In essence, we have significant access from our fingertips. What are the security issues faced by organizations while using wireless technologies?

Posted on: 11:02 am, June 25, 2013, by John Pepitone, Video – – KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A group that calls itself the “Pull Up Your Pants, Respect Yourself” task force rallied Tuesday in front of City Hall to gain support for a ban on sagging pants in Kansas City, Mo.Led by Bishop John D. Birmingham, the group is petitioning for an ordinance to ban the sagging pant fashion that has persisted in recent years.Birmingham wants to gather 3,572 signatures to put his proposed ordinance on the ballot. If approved, anyone caught with saggy pants that reveal an undergarment would be fined between $50 and $100, if they had been previously warned to pull up their pants.Birmingham says the fashion is disrespectful to the public and should be considered ‘indecent exposure’ and a violation of the public decency law.Others agree that a line should be drawn.“I think it’s disrespectful if you to see the underwear,” said Frank White, 62, who supports the proposal. “There’s a lot of young guys who like to take their shirts off because it’s getting hot now and you see the underwear and they got them dropped on their hips. That’s the way they wear them. I understand that’s supposed to be the style but I don’t like the style,” he said. But opponents say the fashion really isn’t hurting anyone.“It ain’t no threat to nobody or nothing. All in all I feel like people should be able to dress like they want to dress but respect their community. If they say pull up your pants then pull up your pants,” said Little Bee Reality, who likes to ‘sag’ and opposes the proposal.Little Bee Reality calls the fashion ‘swag’.“As long as you are not disrespecting the community, being violent with guns or nothing. I feel like you should be able to sag your pants but at the same time there should be a certain way that we handle it,” he said. Those who like to sag say if the proposal does become law, it won’t stop saggy pants from continuing to be popular fashion. Little Bee says he’ll pull up his pants when warned, or in front of a police officer, but then sag them back down when there’s no one nearby to fine him.Birmingham says that’s a start. He wants to at least get young men to know they need to pull up their pants when others are around them. Some supporters concede they may be fighting a losing battle. But ban supporters are frustrated by a sight they believe is becoming too common, and they want to do something to stop it.

Counselor Ethical Boundaries

Follow the directions below to write a paper of 1,500-1,750 words on counselor ethical boundaries and practices. For this paper, write from the perspective that you are a professional counselor in the field. Provide a thoughtful response to each of the following three sections, including specific, concrete examples to illustrate your ideas. Use the section headings provided below to separate each section of your paper.Your final deliverable should be one cohesive paper addressing all three sections along with an introduction and conclusion.Present examples of how you would apply this criteria to at least four counseling situations in which you believe the dual relationship issues are complex and ambiguous. One of your examples should address the issues of physical attraction between clients and counselors. In addition, examine these issues in terms of former clients. Address the following:Explain why counselors frequently collaborate with other stakeholders regarding a client’s care in order to maintain professional and ethical boundaries and practices. For example, professional counselors frequently work with clients with addiction issues. Addiction counselors may work with clients who also have a co-occurring disorder. The specific roles of each of these counselors are well defined; straying into an area outside your scope of practice is unethical. How would you work independently as a counselor within your scope of practice as well as collaboratively with other mental health professionals to ensure quality client care? What is the role of a counselor in a multidisciplinary team? Describe the ethical issues involved in the supervisor-counselor relationship. How is this relationship similar to the counselor-client relationship? How is it different?Outline a series of criteria and describe how you would integrate the criteria into an ethical decision-making model to respond to issues of incompetence and/or unethical conduct by fellow counselors.Clearly describe what you consider to be the most important developments in your thinking about ethical practice that have occurred during this course. This may include areas in which you have clarified your views and beliefs, modified your thinking on a given issue, gained new insights, or acquired a new perspective. It may include issues whose complexity you now appreciate more fully or difficult issues that you now understand you must grapple with, as a counselor. What have you most learned about yourself and/or about what constitutes becoming an ethical practitioner and how has your thinking about ethics and legal issues changed? Be sure that you include specific examples to illustrate general statements.

CIS 599 Week 4 Project Deliverable 2 Business Requirements

This assignment consists of two (2) sections: a business requirements document and a project plan. You must submit both sections as separate files for the completion of this assignment. Label each file name according to the section of the assignment it is written for. Additionally, you may create and / or assume all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment. Documenting the existing IT network and system is an important first step, but you, the CIO, know that capturing the needed changes can be critical to your success as an executive. You know that procuring and documenting quality business requirements is an important step toward the design of quality information systems. Completion of a quality requirements document allows user needs and expectations to be captured, so that infrastructure and information systems can be designed properly. Using the requirements document provided in the course shell as a part of the requirements gathering process, you are to assess the needs of the company as it prepares to become a multinational organization. You must consider current and future trends and requirements; however, assumptions should be realistic and carefully considered. The needs of the organization should be documented. Later deliverables will focus on specifics of all requirements. Section 1: Business Requirements Document Write a four to six (4-6) page original business requirements document for the project plan using the template provided here. Note: The template can also be found in the Student Center of the online course shell. Describe the project needs, including the following: Describe the scope and analyze how to control the scope. Speculate and give justifications for how to control scope. Identify possible risks, constraints, and assumptions. Describe the needed integration with other systems and infrastructure. Note: Database and Data Warehousing, Cloud Technology and Virtualization, and Network Infrastructure and Security. Assess the human capital that may be needed to complete the project, ensuring that necessary skill sets are identified. Speculate on possible outsourcing or offshoring needs that may be required to accomplish project. Define relevant terms that will be used throughout the project. Include cost projections for staffing, infrastructure, and other resources. Use at least two (2) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources. Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements: Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions. Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length. Section 2: Revised Project Plan Use Microsoft Project to: Update the project plan (summary and detail) template, from Project Deliverable 1: Project Plan Inception, with three to five (3-5) new project tasks, each consisting of five to ten (5-10) subtasks. The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are: Describe the integrative functions and activities within the information systems area, including the role of the CIO and technologies managed within the organization. Evaluate how information technology (IT) is aligned with the strategy of the organization, and how to make appropriate choices about architecture in relationship to overall organization goals. Use technology and information resources to research issues in information systems. Write clearly and concisely about leadership issues and strategic insight of the Information systems domain using proper writing mechanics and technical style conventions.

General education capstone 499   Final Research Project The topic of your project needs to be a contemporary societal problem, such as healthcare…

The topic of your project needs to be a contemporary societal problem, such as healthcare reform, immigration reform, privacy rights, euthanasia, First Amendment Rights, stem cell research, capital punishment, corporate prisons, legalizing drugs, ageism, animal rights, cloning, prayer in schools, racial profiling, recycling/conservation, sexism, outsourcing jobs, workplace bullying, etc. The topic must focus on a single aspect, as in “How far do corporations intrude into the private lives of their employers?” or “The social costs of financing the distribution of custom-designed drugs.” You may suggest another topic to use, but the instructor must approve the topic during the Week Two Discussion. The Final Research Project will present research relating the responsibilities of a critical thinker to contemporary society. In this assignment, you will do the following:You must take on the perspective of your major field of study and explain in your paper what that perspective is and how it informs your view of the topic. The topics listed above are far too broad to write about in 10–12 pages (3,300–3,900 words). Instead, you must choose a narrowly defined thesis and approach it from the perspective of your field. If you are an economics major, and you are interested in immigration reform, you should approach a very specific aspect of immigration reform through the lens of economic theory and practice. A specific thesis question would not be, “How does illegal immigration influence the U.S. economy?” One could write thousands of pages on such a topic. Instead, a better question would be, “How do illegal immigrant hotel workers in Chicago impact the economy of Northern Illinois?” You would then want to do the research and determine the positive and negative impacts they have, ultimately trying to conclude how illegal immigration in this area should be approached ethically. It is important that you start your research early in this course. Try to find the most important contemporary questions and theories in your field of study and then align the most important questions with a very specific aspect of the general topics above. For example, if you are a psychology major, you might want to start thinking within the realm of healthcare reform or aspects of mental health and criminality in the prison system. You must present a complete argument, including a major claim with at least five points of evidence, information, or data that will prove the claim. After you have defined the problem and created an argument about how one ought to respond to the issue, you need to explain the ethical outcomes of the position you have taken. This should again be in relation to the field of study in which you are working. There might be different ethical outcomes that result from your analysis. For example, going back to the example issue above, from an economic standpoint, illegal immigrants might contribute positively to the economy of Northern Illinois in a specific number of ways. Thus, an economist who believes that positive impact to the economy is the greatest good would say that one should promote the use of illegal immigrants. However, because these workers are often paid less than others and eliminate jobs that could be done by residents of Chicago, there could be other negative ethical outcomes that would outweigh the positive impacts to the economy. It is your goal to draw out the ethical implications of your thesis and explain the underlying rationale that is the foundation for your claim that one action is better than another. The Final Research Project may be presented as a formal research paper (essay format), a PowerPoint presentation, a video, or a podcast equivalent to a minimum of 10 – 12 pages in APA format (approximately 3,300 – 3,900 typewritten words, excluding title page and reference pages). Written essays must adhere to all APA formatting standards and requirements, as outlined in the .PowerPoint presentations must include the full text (at least 3,300 words) in the speaker notes portion of the slides, with appropriate citations, and full reference pages. PowerPoint presentations must adhere to the basic principles of  and must include citations and references according to APA standards and requirements.Videos and podcasts must include a full transcript, in APA format, including appropriate in-text citations and a references page. There must be no more than 15% quoted content in the body of your essay. All quoted material must bear quotation marks and a full quotation citation. You must have a summary conclusion as the last paragraph(s) of the project, presenting the major point of the essay and the evidence supporting that point. The content body of the project must be 3,300 words or more. The word count does not include anything in the title page, running header, or reference list. It is expected that you meet all logistical requirements of this paper.
