Description

Exercise 11. What does linearization mean, in the case of multidimensional storage?2. Explain why dimension order is important when storing multidimensional data in a linearized array.Exercise 2Considering the R-Tree graphically represented through the MBR with a maximal node size of 3, in Annex 1, perform the following tasks:a. Insert, in this order the following data (each of them will be represented as the small red squares): (“08 Qtr2”, “b”), (“08 Qtr2”, “c”), (“09 Qtr1”, “c”). Represent each step graphically, evidencing the produced split. As split method use the linear cost algorithm and as heuristics, the least enlargement criterion.b. Draw the R-Tree according to the obtained graphical representation of the MBR, after performing exercise 2.a.c. Graphically represent (as in the lecture) the following search ([08 Qtr 2, 08 Qtr 3], [a,c]) on both the MBR representation obtained from exercise 2.a, as well as on the R-Tree representation obtained from 2.b.Exercise 31. UB-Trees:a. What is an UB-Tree and why does it use a Z-curve?b. How big should Z-Regions be and why?c. What mechanism can we use to allow hierarchy restrictions and still obtain good performance with UB-Tree based indexes, and how does it work?2. Bitmap indexes:a. What is a multi-component bitmap index and why is it useful?b. What is the idea behind range-encoded bitmap indexes and why are they useful?

Your assignment due on Sunday is to write a one and a half page paper on the movie . It has to be one and half pages with a thesis statement. Turn the question into a statement and have your topic, point, and reason(s). Questions: Use examples from the movie to determine whether he is one of those. You can use first person but try not to. You can say the character of Mills is…because… You only need to use the notes and the movie. In addition, you have read the course text and course readings, reviewed videos, and researched additional material for each week’s assignments and for this paper. This week, you will put all of those outlines, readings, reviews, and research together into a one summative paper. As we wrap up our course, reflect back on what you have learned about the key structures, systems, roles, and processes that embody our national government. Focus on the strengths and weaknesses, advantages and disadvantages, and positive and negative impacts of these aspects of our democracy. Reading paper

In the first part of this course, we have looked at theoretical arguments in favor of policies of multiculturalism, as well as some of the main criticisms of such policies. Write a paper of 5-7 pages that addresses the following questions: 1) When did the idea of “multiculturalism” as a policy or policies emerge? Why did it appear at this particular time? 2) What are the main arguments for why we need such policies? Why, in other words, would we see it as important to provide support for minority cultures in trying to maintain their distinct cultures? 3) Why are such policies controversial? What are the arguments against using the law to provide such support? In particular, why does the idea of multiculturalism seem to many to conflict with the ideals of liberalism? 4) Describe Will Kymlicka’s approach to addressing the objections you explained in #3. How does he seek to reconcile multiculturalism and liberalism? Make sure to include in your answer his a) different kinds of groups; b) different kinds of rights; and 3) different functions of rights. 5) Finally, do you find Kymlicka’s approach persuasive? Does is sufficiently address the objections to multicultural policies? Why or why not? You should write a single, unified paper that answers all of these questions. Reference all of the authors we have read so far: Rattansi, Taylor, Kymlicka, and Crowder. Use a normal, 12-point font and 1-inch margins. Include in-text citations each time you use the words or ideas of another author. You do not need a separate bibliography unless you make use of a source that was not assigned to you to read.
