develop a quantitative research proposal. This assignment is to set the stage for the proposal. You need to select a research topic and write an introduction for your research proposal. To make planning for the second assignment easier here are some guidelines and the criteria we will use for determining the grade.
1) The assignment should consist of: a) Introduction including problem statement; b) Significance of the problem or issue chosen to public health; and c) The research question and study objectives;
2) Remember that the research question and objectives may evolve over time so this is not the last chance to refine these;
3) You should start very generally about the importance of the field and then move to the more specific gap you are addressing in the study and then your research question and objectives;
4) You don’t need to refer specifically or extensively to the literature (you will do that in the literature review) but you need to try to frame your study in the context of the general literature on that field. There are some examples of problem statements from published articles available on Moodle. If you do choose to cite some references, you need to provide a bibliography of any references cited and you will need to do that for every assignment.
5) Length: The length of the assignment is difficult to specify because it will depend in part on how complicated the problem is, how much literature there is on it and your group discussions. However, a rough guide would be one page double-spaced (with a maximum of 2 pages). [You may want to expand it further for your final proposal, but for this assignment that is sufficient].
