Group Leadership and Conflict Summary

Write a summary of your responses to the following. My responses are after each questions

Group Interaction
• How clear was the intent of the discussion? (interaction from the team was not very good on this project. As of Saturday we only had 2 team members respond.
• How prepared were your group members for the discussion? I was prepared for the discussion, I had watched the video and took notes to determine the issues
• Did everyone participate equally in the discussion? No, only two of the team members participated
• Were group members open to different points of view? We were very open but after watching the two videos we seem to have the same views
• How would you describe the overall climate of the discussion? The climate was very open, since there were only two of us, it was not heated
• Did you feel your group was productive in the discussion? Did you use the time efficiently? No I do not feel we were productive. Not enough team participation
• What strategies can you use in future discussions to increase productivity and outcomes? Maybe our responses should include questions to the group versus just stating our opinions
• What approach will you take next time to increase group cohesion? Since only one other team member and myself participated we were cohesive but it would be nice to see others take part. Maybe sending a private email
Video Analysis – \”Planning A Playground\”
• What are the issues in this meeting? The issues of this meeting were to discuss how much to spend on building a playground. They went with a budget of 35K. Ended the discussion in ways to earn the money such as fundraisers
• What did they do well as a group? The group did very well together. Everyone participated and was open to ideas
• Can you identify constructive or deconstructive conflict occurring in this group? What are some key indicators? What conflict styles do you see?
• Based on what you learned this week, how might you handle this situation differently? I thought this was a productive meeting, I would have liked to see samples of playgrounds at the different budgets. Like what does a 35K play ground look like vs a 25K playground
Video Analysis – \”The Politics of Sociology\”
• What are the issues in this meeting? The issues in this meeting were to come up with ways to boost enrollment and maybe add or eliminate certain courses
• What did they do well as a group? The tension was argumentative most of the time, one wanted to add a class he created and another didn’t want his class cut.
• What types of conflict do you see in this video? Provide examples.
• There is a clear leader in this video. What can he do to be a better leader for this group? The leader steve was very good leading the meeting for the most part, he let everyone speak their minds and tried to reel them back in when it started to get out of hand. There really wasn’t a resolution. Just a lot of the members voicing their concerns and what they would of liked to see done
• Based on what you learned this week, how might you handle this team situation differently? They started out good with laying out with what they wanted to discuss, it seems two of them only thought of themselves and not the purpose of the meeting to boost enrollment. I would have taken each subject and talked about pros and cons of adding and removing the course and would have liked to see the class enrollment numbers.

Writer\’s Choice APOL Crit Thinking

In preparation for the Critical Thinking Paper and by completing your textbook readings you will be equipped to respond by objectively compiling information from a variety of sources to compose a Critical Thinking Paper; applying critical thinking strategies; identifying informal logical fallacies commonly used in argumentation; defining the term worldview; identifying components of a biblical/Christian worldview; and employing strategies to communicate the Christian gospel to a person from a non-Christian worldview

o Select 1 of the following worldviews (Secular Humanism, Hinduism, Buddhism, or Islam) that have been considered in the course content.
o Identify the worldview that you have selected on your Title page (APA, MLA, or Turabian).

Weak Sauce

Using both the Toulmin model of argument and the \”Revising Thesis Statements\” handout as guides, analyze at least two of the following weak claims:

Affirmative action programs should be abolished because race should not be a factor in choosing people.
Problems lower class people face can be solved through education.
Although it wasn’t always true, women nowadays have the same opportunities as men.
Homosexuals should be able to get married just like straight people.
Autistic children can be helped with better research and understanding.
Society needs to recognize that illegal immigration laws are not successful.
Ignore the fact that these are on the no-go list (claims like these are why there\’s a no-go list) and focus instead on why these are weak claims. Can they be fixed? If so, how? If not, why not? Pay special attention to whether there is a flaw somewhere, such as a warrant in need of backing or a logical fallacy. Are there problems with language choices or definitions of terms that are not effective?

As always, posts should be around 150-200 words, and you may comment on others\’ ideas, but try to stick to your own ideas in the post. Feel free to \”like\” your peers\’ posts if you read something noteworthy or interesting.

Assignment Brief:

Chocolate Delight
Chocolate Delight is the number one chocolate brand in the UK. Retailing from almost 400 of its own branded stores, Chocolate Delight also sells via 197 franchised outlets and Chocolate Delight Direct (online corporate and costumer delivery). Chocolate Delight\’s branded products make the highest profit margin, but the business also makes own-label chocolate products for the likes of Marks and Spencer and Salisbury\’s.

Chocolate Delight\’s Key Objectives:
– Develop new, innovative products
– Improve UK performance across all the three distribution channels
– Improve productivity in operations

The chocolate market in the UK is mature. Sales don\’t tend to change dramatically, though prolonged periods of hot weather are known to depress demand. The market is dominated by some big brands, but also support lots of small, niche operators who specialise in luxury products.

Chocolate sales tend to do well in a recession, but Chocolate Delight found the UK recession a real challenge, particularly at Christmas in 2008. In February 2009 Chocolate Delight reported a 39% fall in half -year profits (to 7.3 million pounds) after it opted to offer significant pricing discounts in response to failure of Woolworths ( chain of retail outlets ) and a sharp fall in consumer confidence. Chocolate Delight was also hit when its largest franchise operator Birthdays Ltd (with 94 Chocolate Delight franchises) went into administration.

Chocolate Delight doesn\’t just retail chocolates – it makes it too. So the business is capital intensive. Recently Chocolate Delight had invested 1.1 million pounds in a robotic packaging system and in extensive store refurbishments and new point of sales systems. In hindsight was this a sensible investment? How could profitability be improved?
