Discussion 1: Treatment Evaluation

Many social work students dread taking research classes. They often view the courses as unnecessary to be a good social worker when, in fact, the opposite is true. How do you really know that your interventions are working, unless you evaluate them? As a social worker it is essential to identify in a quantifiable manner whether a treatment is helping the client or if it needs to be abandoned for another approach. In the past, social workers depended on recognizing a client’s progress through their own observations. Today, with a significant push both in the field of social work and among insurance companies to provide evidenced-based practice, social workers now are expected, more than ever, to evaluate their practice. Selecting the proper measurement/evaluation tool, based on the clients’ presenting concerns and treatment goals, will provide the evidence-based practice that is expected by the field., review this week’s Resources, including the course-specific case studies. Select either Abdel or Pedro from the course-specific case studies provided and search the Mental Measures Yearbook database to identify potential scales that could be used to evaluate the treatment. Select one of the scales you identified and consider why it might be useful in evaluating treatment. Finally, think about the validity and reliability of that scale.: The course-specific case study you select should differ from the case study you selected in Week 6. a description of the scale you might use to evaluate treatment for the client in the case study you selected and explain why you selected that scale. Be sure to reference the case study you selected in your post. Finally, explain the validity and reliability of that scale.

As we have discussed, interviewing skills can be used in a wide variety of settings. Let us now turn our focus to how those skills may be applied.  Think of a career you are interested in pursuing after you complete your degree. If you are not certain about what type of career you may pursue, think about a career you would like to learn more about such as marriage and family therapist, school counselor, or human resource manager. You can also visit:, where you can view the Occupational Handbook in order to get information about different career choices. With your career choice in mind, think of a social service agency, healthcare agency, business, educational institution, or government agency that you would potentially be employed at that could make use of a counseling /clinical interview. In a 2-3 page paper, describe the organization you selected and then discuss the value and advantages of an intake interview for the organization. What situation would it be used in? Why would an intake or counseling interview be a good choice for this organization? What ethical issues may arise in this specific situation and how could they be addressed? Be sure to use APA formatting, and address each topic listed above and, as appropriate, cite the online course, the textbook, and other credible, scholarly sources to substantiate the points you are making.

Quantitative Analysis

For many of the remaining topics in BUS-660, assignments will be in the form of case studies. These case studies are designed to provide an opportunity to engage in that topic\’s quantitative analysis method, as well as demonstrate critical thinking and appropriate professional communication. Review \”Decision Analysis Case Study: Valley of the Sun Reviews\” for this topic\’s case study, a proposal to change the faculty performance review process at Valley of the Sun Academy (VSA). Based on the information presented in the case study, create a decision tree or Excel-based analysis to determine the most appropriate recommendation. In a 500-750-word report to VSA\’s Human Resources department and the chief financial officer, explain your approach and the rationale for this method. Evaluate both outcomes and how they would be applied to this decision.  Conclude your report with your recommendation for the review process VSA should adopt.  Submit your Excel-based analysis or decision tree with your report.
