The paper will be cultural evaluation of a religious topic dealing with either the concepts sex or gender that we have defined and discussed. It should be short, about 5 pages, double spaced, APA or MLA format acceptable. In doing so, you must be able to compare and contrast the main thesis with at least another religion we have studied. (and this has to also be part of your thesis statement). It is imperative that you CITE and provide PAGE NUMBERS. This is the most important aspect of writing a paper. If you paraphrase from a book or journal article, you need to give me the citation from where you found the idea. If you quote, once again I need a citation. Similarly if you are simply alluding to a particular idea, I need a citation. Any citation will need to have PAGE NUMBERS, regardless of APA or MLA format. First, pick a religion that you would like to write on. We have Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism and also Primal Religions. Second, pick a very specific topic from the religion you will be discussing such as a festival, a deity, a belief, ritual, etc. It has to be a very narrow topic because you only have five pages to write all of this information into and to explain it. Explain what the cultural understanding of either sex or gender is as related to religious practice. In doing so, make sure to explain how sex and gender are defined, and performed by the religion, festival, cult, etc. Demonstrate how gender actions, and sex actions, are generated and expected of the religious participants in their religious contexts and their everyday lives. Third, compare and contrast the thesis with another religion and show how they are similar and where they differ.
