Description
This week\’s lesson focuses on fears and literature. In addition, the lesson is an introduction to the play Othello and covers homework regarding Acts 1 and 2 of the play.
Objectives
3. Analyze, interpret, and evaluate a variety of texts for the ethical and logical uses of evidence. The student will be able to
a. demonstrate an understanding of appropriate literary works, including genres such as short fiction, poetry, and drama;
b. identify literary and rhetorical elements, including plot and structure, viewpoint, characterization, style, setting, and atmosphere;
c. analyze use of style and literary devices such as figurative language, rhythm, and language patterns;
d. respond to literature with rational judgments supported by evidence;
e. evaluate critical analyses of texts;
f. employ standard critical approaches and terminology.
4. Write in a style that clearly communicates meaning, builds credibility, and inspires belief or action. The student will be able to
a. follow standard essay composition procedures;
b. apply logical organization and support;
d. use effective rhetorical strategies appropriate to defined audience and purpose

These include a modern English translation of the play, prominent themes of the text and important literary terms. Shakespeare\’s plays can be a little difficult to understand at first, but I\’m confident that if you use these resources, you will be able understand it.
